Fédération Equestre Internationale officials have invited experts from various equestrian fields to participate in a round table conference about using hyperflexion as a training method according toEurodressage. The meeting will take place at the FEI headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland, on Feb. 9. Participants will attend from every aspect of the equestrian industry, so that everyone can voice their opinion. The FEI hopes to reach a shared conclusion about hyperflexion and perhaps develop guidelines for all FEI disciplines. The FEI's current position on hyperflexion is based on the results of the conference held in 2006. It reads: "There are no known clinical side effects specifically arising from the use of hyperflexion. However, there are concerns for the horses' well-being if the technique is not practiced correctly. The FEI does not permit excessive or prolonged hyperflexion in any equestrian sport and has a strict stewarding program to protect the performance horse in all disciplines.

CHIO Aachen 2010 as pilot project for dressage
Test for new Olympic format in the course of the World Equestrian Festival - entertaining innovations At the latest since the FEI World Equestrian Games Aachen 2006, sport fans from all over the world know how fascinating dressage sport can be. Back then, the international dressage stars competed in Aachen's Soers for the World Champion title in front of 40,000 spectators, the competitions were broadcast live worldwide. After the Olympic Games 2008, the International Equestrian Federation FEI had established a "Task Force Dressage". With Frank Kemperman, show director of the World Equestrian Festival, CHIO Aachen, as chairman, proposals for the advancement of dressage sport were developed. "We want to make the sport more entertaining and more comprehensible", says Kemperman. The FEI's General Assembly has already approved the ideas in Copenhagen in November. The acute laminitic patient: Biomechanical treatment options. | Introduction:Laminitis is a medical emergency, but also requires urgent mechanical measures, aimed at diminishing tension on the inflamed laminae, pressure on the anterior sole under the distal margin of the coffin bone and finally the asymmetrical tensions on the hoof capsule produced when the horse turns. How to use a digital extension device in lameness examinations | Introduction:Many clinicians use dorsal digital extension tests, when doing a lameness examination of the front limbs. Traditionally, the limb under examination is placed on the extremity of a long board, while an assistant picks up the contra-lateral limb. The opposite end of the board is then slowly raised, extending the digital joints, tensing the deep digital flexor tendon (DDFT), its inferior check ligament and the collateral and impart ligaments of the distal sesamoid (D.S.), as the palmar angle of the DDFT around the navicular bursa and the D.S. increases. Apart from practical problems like bending or breaking boards, pinched fingers, and slipping of the subject's foot, evaluation of positive or negative responses are only standardized, if at all, with a personal protocol, e.g. by using always the same board, careful placing of the foot at its extremity and deciding on a height to be reached ... |
